Setting and achieving goals is something that we all know we should do, but often do not. Or, we set goals that we never work towards and therefore never complete. It can be a real challenge to keep up with setting and completing your health and fitness goals, especially because life gets so busy! The following tips can help you take your achievements to new heights.
Set High, but Reachable Goals.
Aim to set goals you will be able to achieve with some significant effort and determination. Setting a goal that is too low does not require you to push yourself enough to grow. Setting a goal that is too high, on the other hand, will leave you feeling defeated when you don’t reach it. To figure out exactly how high your goal should be, first set a timeframe for when you want to complete your goal. Do this by first estimating the amount of time you will be able to dedicate to working towards the goal each day (or each week). The key here is to be realistic, and even air on the side of caution with this estimation. You would rather be hitting your time commitment with ease rather than missing it consistently. After you know how much time you can dedicate on a daily or weekly basis, you can make a realistic estimation of how long it will take you to complete the goal.
Enlist a Buddy.
Have a friend or partner become your goal buddy! You can enlist them to complete the goal with you or just to keep you motivated and on track by doing check-ins with them. If you work towards a goal together, you can pump each other up so you both stay on track, but having a designated person to talk to about how your progress is going is a great way to stay accountable, too.
Keep a Progress Journal.
You would be amazed at how much writing down your progress will help you towards your goal. This does not have to be a big commitment, but the best way to go about it is to do it at the same time every day, even if you do not have a lot to say in any given entry. Journaling at the same time each day will keep you focuses on your goal and to keep track of where you are in reaching it.
Accept and Move on from Setbacks.
This is perhaps the most important tip for reaching your goals. Ultimately, it does not matter how long it takes you to complete your goal or how many setbacks you had. What will matter is that you overcame those setbacks and reached your achievement eventually! No matter how big or small a setback you have, just accept it and move on from wherever you are.
